A wooden wheelchair?!? What’s the point?
For many people, a wooden wheelchair is, above all, a much more aesthetically pleasing option than a traditional wheelchair made of metal or composite materials.
Apollo wooden wheelchairs are designed as fashion accessories.
They largely dispel the image of “medical equipment” that is often associated with traditional wheelchairs.
Becoming an Apollo wheelchair user means experiencing a radical change in how people you meet perceive you and, often, feeling more comfortable in your wheelchair, and thus suffering less from your disability.
We encourage our users to think of their Apollo wooden wheelchair as a new pair of shoes they treat themselves to, as a complement, at the very least, to the standard wheelchair they already own. This way, they can choose, every day, the wheelchair best suited to their daily activities.
A wooden wheelchair, isn’t that too heavy?
Of course, our wooden wheelchairs can’t compete with the top-of-the-line models on the market, made of carbon fiber or aerospace-grade aluminum.
But thanks to a clever design in which the parts of the wheelchair that look solid are actually hollow, we manage to keep the weight of our wheelchairs around 10 kg, fully equipped.
In fact, we like to say that our wheelchairs are light enough, and that’s good enough for us.
And besides, if we keep comparing a wheelchair to a pair of shoes: do we expect all our pairs of shoes to have the exact same characteristics? No.
A wooden wheelchair, isn’t it too fragile?
As with the question of weight, we respond that our wooden wheelchairs are sturdy enough, and that’s what matters.
We’ve proven this by putting some of our models through several half-marathons and marathons: they held up, even though they weren’t designed for that.
If they can withstand a marathon, they’ll have no trouble handling the challenges users face on a daily basis.
A wooden wheelchair, is it water-resistant?
Apollo wooden wheelchairs are protected by a high-quality varnish that makes them resistant to rain.
Furthermore, they have been tested in all weather conditions: torrential downpours, snow, heat, and freezing cold. They hold up well.
Are your wooden wheelchairs foldable?
No.
But the rear wheels can be removed without tools in just a few seconds, making it easy to load our wheelchairs into a car trunk, for example, even a small one.
Are your wooden wheelchairs eligible for government assistance?
No.
For this reason, we try to keep our rates as low as possible: our wheelchairs are much less expensive than other high-end wheelchairs on the market
Do you make electric wooden wheelchairs?
No.
However, certain electric motor kits are compatible with our wooden wheelchairs! In particular, motors designed to be mounted on the crossbar, under the wheelchair seat.
Do you make wooden wheelchairs for children?
No.
Not yet. But one day, surely.
Where are your wooden wheelchairs manufactured?
Apollo wooden wheelchairs are handcrafted in France, in the Bordeaux region.
